For all your coin collectors out there, I saw an amazing story featured on the homepage of CNN the other day. Someone's collection of rare collection of American pennies turned into a 10.7 million dollar auction. His auction featured 301 of the rarest and earliest forms of the American 1 cent coin.
Among the rare coins in the collection was a 1793 coin that apparently was abandoned because the government thought Lady Liberty looked frightened. That coin raised about $650,000 alone!
In the collection was also a 1794 penny with small stars added to prevent counterfeiting back in those days. This particular coin raised $632,500, according to the Dallas-based auction house Heritage Auction Galleries.
For all you coin collectors, I've included a list of 12 different pennies, used between 1793 and today. Click on each of them to get great deals on securing your part of history!
