Alright, so your parentals finally hooked you up with an Xbox 360 and you want to ramp up your game library on the cheap.  Your in luck, there are a couple simple ways to get a bunch of games on the cheap.

The Clone Wars - Star Wars for the Next Generation

When the first Star Wars movie, now officially titled “A New Hope”, was released in theaters in 1977, I was seven years old. “The Empire Strikes Back” followed in 1980, and the original trilogy wrapped up in 1983 with “Return of the Jedi”. I would have given anything for a real lightsaber…come to think of it, I still would! The point is, I grew up with the world George Lucas created at impressionable times in my life.

The Star Wars universe then produced book after book from imaginative writers such as Timothy Zhan and Kevin J Anderson at a time in my life when I really enjoyed reading. The books I felt, did, and continue to do a fantastic job in furthering the Star Wars tale for those wanting a future-look into the lives of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and company.

My son is now seven years old, and Star Wars means as much or more to him now, as it did to me all those years ago. That is what I think is one of the most unique characteristics of the Star Wars saga – it spans generations, and in some cases brings generations together. Essentially, the motion picture versions of the original trilogy, in addition to the prequel trilogy, tell the life story of Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi heroism, and his fall from grace to the Dark Side as Darth Vader - albeit a little backward in presentation.

And now, the spin-off story set between the motion pictures “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith”, is the story of the Clone Wars as the latest chapter. Thanks to the two animated dvd’s; “Star Wars Clone Wars – Volumes One and Two”, and the theater-released computer animated “Star Wars - The Clone Wars” prefacing the television series of the same name, my son now wants to either be a Clone Trooper, or a Jedi when he grows up. Well, who am I to stand in his way…provided he can score me that real lightsaber.

NHL 2K8 - A Let Down

The hype around the launch of the newest installment in the 2K NHL series was amazing, the game promised a pro stick comparable if not better than the one EA put out for their NHL 2007 game. 2K8 also promised A.I. that would seriously enhance game play by simply disallowing you to pound them into the ground the same way. Basically the game was suppose to blow every other NHL game out of the water.

Of course this wasn't the case at all. The pro stick is unresponsive and is a very cheap, half hearted effort to try to beat the amazing control that EA gives its users. The stick still adds a very positive dimension to the game however it just isn't where it should be technologically. My main concern however is the new control scheme that just complicates everything, from having to speed burst buttons, to having to hold down separate buttons while shooting in order to fire off a slap shot.

The A.I. is a lot better than it has previously been, however it is no where close to what anyone expected, basically it just took the old A.I. and added a few minor tweaks that really aren't noticeable. The only real noticeable difference that I found was that the computer does a far better job avoiding the big hit in this game.

Overall the game is still very fun and the goaltending is still the best in the field, and 2K8 finally improved the scoring in the game because now it no longer depends on the one-timer. So the goal tending and new scoring still make 2K8 my favorite NHL game, however this game didn't improve as much as it was expected to so I expect huge things from the 2K team by 2010 in order to re-assert their dominance over EA.

Xbox 360 Bioshock Faceplate Madness

Just wanted to let you know about this cool limited edition giveaway for all you Xbox 360 fans.  2K Boston, is fueling the buzz for Bioshock by giving away a limited edition Xbox 360 faceplate. The Bioshock faceplate is limited to 5,100 units and features a cool design and is possibly the best faceplate created. 

How do I get one you ask?  There 3 ways that I know of:

One is to work at a gaming store and hope you get a freebie, Two, become a community member and get lucky.  Or three, you'll have to go on the open market and pick one up on eBay, Bioshock Faceplate.  I just took a look and there are 18 listed currently on eBay.  Based on sales history be prepared to spend between $50-$100 on one with some past auctions topping the $100 mark.  That's alot to pay for a faceplate, but if you have to have it, it might be the only option.
