World Golf Tour Review

WorldgolftourI have to admit, I've been a golf game fan for a very long time. Although this may date me a bit I remember playing Links, Links LS and Links386 like it was yesterday.  As the video game consoles caught up and subseqently passed computers in performance I became a fan of the Tiger Woods golf series

I recently was invited to try the beta of World Golf Tour.  They promised to deliver HD quality graphics with no download required.  On that count they delivered.  The graphics are really quite good.  I was shocked to see photo-realistic qualty graphics delivered by a Flash based application.

The beta focuses on a "Closest to the Pin" challenge Kiawah island golf course.  Prior to beginning the game runs you through a very well done tuturial.  Not being a fan of tuturials I skipped it the first time and then couldn't quite figure out how to swing the golf club in the game.  So back to the tutorial it was.  The tutuorial took about 3 minutes to complete and nicely illustrated how to swing the golf in this game.  The first thing that I noticed that was missing was the normal "click - click - click".  The 1st click to start your backswing, the 2nd click to stop your backswing and the third click to determine how straight your shot was isn't used on World Golf Tour.  They use a much more controlled swing system to allow you accurately determine the power of your swing and then force you to concentrate on your accuracy.  I really like their swing UI.  It's easy to learn and lets you focus on the hardest part of golf - accuracy.

I played a few holes and closest that I got to the pin was 8 feet (after about 25 tries).  I'm looking forward to the entire game so I can see what putting will be like.  Aiming in putting usually makes or breaks a good golf game.

Bottomline - if you like Golf Simulators - it appear that you are going to really like World Golf Tour.  I'm looking forward to the full release.

Spring's Here - Get the Top 10 Sports Gear

Spring_08The Top 10 Sporting Goods Items
Spring is in the air and everyone's stocking up on their favorite sports gear.  It's time to start thinking about getting outdoors and enjoying all of the activities that you have been unable to do all winter.  We've gathered a list of the top 10 sports gear that people are buying.  Whether you are into cycling, mountain biking, golf, baseball, surfing or even football gear, now is the time to hunt for some incredible bargains.

Cycling

CyclingRoad Bikes and Mountain Bikes are incredibly popular this spring with a variety of models to choose from at all price ranges.  Cycling is great exercise for the entire family and a super way to spend time together.

Roadbikediaboliquecarbon Road Bikes

If you're like me, you may think that Road Bikes are just like the old 10-Speed that you may have rode back in high school.  Let me tell you, today's bikes bare little resemblance to those dinosaurs.  Today's road bikes are a blend of advanced technology and design.  Check out these road bike deals now.

Mountainbikeshore_one_grey Mountain Bikes
This spring it was finally time to upgrade my mountain bike.  My old bike served me well for a number of years.  However, it was build like a tank and weighed a lot.  So, I decided to see what advances had been made in the past 10 years.  I was pleasantly surprised to see a host of advancements from suspensions to better brakes to a comfortable seat (now that's a nice change).  Check out the Mountain Bikes deals for yourself.

Camping & Hiking

Camping

Tents
It's finally time to get back outside and plan your trip into the great outdoors.  It's probably a good time to think about ditching that torn and leaky tent that you put up with last year too.  Check out the great deals on some awesome Tents.

HondageneratorGenerators
There's nothing like spending a night under the stars after a long day of enjoying the outdoors.  Of course, this implies that you are not freezing your butt off or listening to people moan about the fact their cell phone battery is dying.  Way not enjoy the best of both worlds camping with some creature comforts built in.  Yeah, it's cheating but it keeps the whole camping party happy!  Check out the deals on Generators

Golfing

GolfclubI was able to start the golf season early this year with a trip Las Vegas.  It sure was nice to swing the clubs.  Golf continues to rise in popularity all over the world.  People young and old are playing the game that everyone loves to hate.  After all what other game to play against yourself?  Get yourself ready for a great season on the links.

GolfshoeGolf Shoes
Let's face it.  Golf is challenging enough, you don't need the added burden of uncomfortable shoes ruining your day.  Your slice into the water on 3 and 7 already did that.  I bought a pair of Footjoy golf shoes last year and they are as comfortable and supportive as a good pair of cross trainers.  They may not have improved my golf game but my feet are a lot my comfortable.  Check out the deals on Golf Shoes

Swingtrainer Golf Swing Trainers
If you want to get better at golf, let's face it you have to practice.  There's just no better way to shave strokes off of your game.  That's led to a huge increase in the popularity of Golf Swing Trainers.  The good news is there aren't the gimmicky gadgets that you may remember from late night TV.  Today's swing trainers actually have some science behind them.  Check out the deals Golf Swing Trainers

Vintagegolfclubs Vintage Golf Clubs & Shafts
For purists  there is nothing better have a straight bladed iron.  Forget perimeter weighting and cavity backs, give me a nice angled piece of steel to strike a golf ball with.  The truth is people are as likely to collect vintage golf club and shafts as use them.  Indulge your duel passions of golf and collecting and find deal on a Vintage Golf Club and Shaft today

Baseball / Softball

Pitchingmachine Pitching Machines
Baseball season is here in earnest from Little League to the Majors.  Given the number of people in love with America's game it's not surprise that the passion and devotion of people continue to increase - especially when it comes to training.  Pitching machines are all the rage this year.  Check out these Pitching Machine deals

Battingcage Batting Cages & Netting
Batting cages and netting now come in all shapes and sizes.  If you picked up a pitching machine like thousands of other people have this season this is a perfect compliment.  Check out these Batting Cage deals

Football

Footballequipment_2Football Equipment
The pre-season hasn't yet begun but now is the time to buy your football equipment for the season.  Beat the rush later this year and check out these Football equipment deals now.

Top 10 Wii Accessories to Increase the Fun (updated 2009-01-26)

Wiioffcouch_2 Alright you have a new Wii console and now you want to find out what else you should get.  Here are the top 10 best accessories to optimize your Wii and have more fun:

  • Extra Controllers - Wii consoles only come with one controller wiimote and one nunchuk.  In order to have the most fun with your Wii you're going to want to play with your buds.  You might want to think about picking up extra Wiimotes and nunchuks so you can optimize your fun.
  • Wii Fit - Wii Fit is the latest addition to the Nintendo Wii.  It combines yoga, balance, and strength training into a fun and easy to use package.  It makes exercise a blast for the whole family!
  • Sports Pack - Wii Sports Packs feature some really cool separate accessory attachments including: A Baseball Bat, Golf Grip and Tennis Racket Grip, and each attach quickly and safely to the Wii Remote, transforming the game play experience. Designed to match the aesthetics of the Wii Remote, the Wii Sports Pack is a must for all sporting fans.
  • SD card - The Wii comes with 512mb but many gamers quickly fill it up and use an SD Card to supplement, pick up a 1 GB or 2 GB SD card (they're very affordable now).
  • Sensor Bar - Your wii console comes with one but these often break and it might make sense that you keep an extra sensor bar as a backup (they're very inexpensive).
  • Wii Points Game card - One of the coolest things about the Wii is its Virtual Console, which lets gamers purchase classic games from the old Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super NES, the Nintendo 64, the Sega Genesis, and the TurboGrafx-16. Some of the titles include: Donkey Kong (NES), Super Mario 64 (N64), and Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis). To purchase the downloadable titles, you'll need to use Nintendo currency known as Wii Points (similar to the Microsoft Points on Xbox Live), which currently have an exchange rate of 100 points per U.S. dollar. You can buy Wii Points directly through the console's online store, or use prepaid Wii Points Cards.
  • Guitar Hero - Is one of the best Wii games but it also comes with the ultimate Wii accessory, a guitar.  If you haven't played Wii Guitar Hero you need to let your hair down and rock out.

Check out my previous Wii Blog where I list the Top 10 Wii Games.
