I know most people, me included, were utterly disappointed when Apple came out with the iPhone 4s and not an iPhone 5, but lets not be too hasty about this decision. The iPhone 4s offers a lot of new features that the iPhone 4 does not have:

Processor: The new Apple iPhone 4s uses a dual-core A5 chip that’s said to be much faster than the old A4 chip that’s used in the iPhone 4. This allows for better gaming and faster searches on the Internet.

Camera and Video Recorder: There really isn’t a need anymore to buy a camera and video recorder when you have the 8-megapixel camera on the new iPhone 4s. Like any high-end camera the iPhone 4s comes with face recognition, LED flash, autofocus, video stabilization, and 1080p! iPhone 4, 5 mega-pixel camera, 720p, lets move on.

Built in Assistant: Siri, the built in personal assistant, is reason to spend the extra money on the new iPhone 4s. This application is truly amazing and allows you to talk to your iPhone to set reminders, make appointments, text people back, make phone calls without going through your contacts, as well as the ability to search anything on the web with a voice command to your phone. The only thing it can’t do is walk your dog (that could be a feature in the iPhone 20).

The battle between Blackberry Bold and Apple iPhone 4

 

With the battle of the smartphones ever raging, I have had my Blackberry Bold for about a year now and absolutely love it. With the fastest and most reliable emailing system of any other handheld device out there, to having one of the easiest and nicest keyboards of any phone, it will be hard for me to ever switch to any other device. And now with the Blackberry Bold 9900 available, there's the opportunity to upgrade to the improved device and platform. Lately though, its become pretty apparent that mostly everyone I know and from what I’ve read online, people are getting rid of their Blackberrys and shifting over to the iPhone. Why is this?

 

Memory: Blackberry doesn’t offer their users much memory space on their devices, which in turn creates a lack of space for apps on your phone. The iPhone however, offers tons of available space so there is never really a need to delete an app to free up space for another.

 

Camera: Facetime has to be one of the coolest camera features out there. Having the ability to talk to friends and loved ones face-to-face over the phone in my opinion is a game changer. Blackberry offers only 3.2 megapixels on their phones, Apple, 5 megapixels on the iPhone 4.

 

Internet: Searching the web on the iPhone is simple, seamless, and very easy. On my Blackberry though, I hardly ever use the web unless it’s to look up something important.

 

I understand that there is pros and cons to everything and although the iPhone seems better on paper, I personally will not be making the change. So, which phone is right for you? Once you've decided, GetItNext will be here to help you find it!

Kids have it too easy these days

I swore I would never do it but it has happened: I am using my parent’s quotes on my own children.  From “don’t make me pull this car over” to “money doesn’t grow on trees”, I am forever spouting off some phrase that would irritate me to no end as a child.  But I will agree with you when you say kids have it too easy these days.  I had shoes for the walk to school, uphill, both ways in the snow but I still complained as do my children.

My children are afforded shoes with Velcro tabs while I had to actually learn how to tie a bow.  They will complain about waiting at the bus stop in the snow even though they have Uggs.  You know what I had?  Rubber galoshes and I had to put plastic bags over my feet to keep them dry before I put them on.  Not only that, I had to carry my real shoes to school to change into.   If I wanted music on my journey to school, I had to sing.  I try to tell them about The Walkman and all they can envision is an Ipod Touch.   Can I download music to it?  Yes, but I have to get a blank cassette tape and wait for my favorite song to come on the radio and dive accross the room to hit record and then play on my boom box.  That always gets a blank stare.  And they ask me when I got my first cell phone.  Ummm…when I was an adult.  How did you ever get in touch with your mom and dad without an iPhone, BlackBerry, or Android they would ask?  I carried a dime and used a pay phone…more blank stares. Kids these days.

I am now introducing “The Little House on the Prairie” series to my children.  That was the show that made me realize, as a child, how much I had to be thankful for: electricity, running water and a working toilet.  Of course, my children are watching the series on a monsterous LED HD TV while sitting on a leather couch.  I think some of the concepts may be lost in translation.

Apple engineers also designed the software and hardware to work together, in order to maximize energy efficiency and minimize the carbon footprint of the MacBook. Even the packaging was reconsidered and reduced, producing smaller boxes to ship and less material to recycle.
