For those of you who have not wooted, this is not the blog for you. For all of you wooters out there I'd like to get your thoughts. I've been a big fan of Woot.com since its inception years ago. These guys came up with a very creative way to sell products and have some fun at the same time. Back in the good ole days the site was less commercial and had a clear focus. Over the years they've introduced some cool new ideas (bag o crap, wootoff, woot blog) but it seems lately they've lost their edge with all the advertising and overall clutter/distractions which takes away from the user experience.
During the first year or two I checked woot each morning to see what they had up for sale. Usuaully it wasn't something I was interested in but once a month they had something listed that peaked my interest. I also really looked forward to Wootoffs and when they ran one, everyone in the office was buzzing about it like it was an event like the Olympics or something (I guess it is for tech guys). Over the past couple years I started to visit the site less frequently and pretty much lost interest in it.
This past week I was alerted by several co-workers about a Wootoff so I figured I'd tune in whenever I could. I quickly found that the site had changed quite a bit and was disappointed in the overall look and feel. First, they now have winewoot and shirtwoot, they also have advertising all over the site and the wootoff was a bummer too. The wootoff listed mostly household mainstream crap and went on forever, 3 days or something. Any of the good tech items or true bargains were gone in 1-3 minutes meaning they had low inventory. So I'm now wondering if others feel the same way and if so when do you think Woot jumped the shark?
