Love him or hate him (or even if you don’t know him), David Beckham is one of the world’s most prolific goal scorers. At today’s press conference, the LA Galaxy proudly presented David Beckham to the world – only a day after him and his wife Victoria ‘Posh Spice’ Beckham arrived in Los Angeles.
The 32-year-old will continue wearing his beloved No. 23, a number which us North Americans associate with one person, and one person only: yes, His ‘Airness’ himself – Michael Jordan. Does that mean that Brits see Beckham the way we see Michael Jordan? Is that comparison even remotely possible?
1. Except for a short stint with number 45 on his back, Michael Jordan’s jersey number was always number 23 for the Chicago Bulls. While Beckham began his professional career wearing number 7 for Manchester United, he changed to wearing 23 when he moved to Real Madrid. I still like the Manchester United Jersey - by the way!
2. Regardless of whether you prefer basketball or football, both players are heroes within their sport. Michael Jordan has won 6 championships, 5 MVP titles, an Olympic Gold medal and holds countless records. Beckham has won championships in both England and Spain, been awarded the Golden shoe for the world’s best football player and holds a number of records for both club and country football.
3. Both athletes are walking highlight reels. A simple search on youtube for Michael Jordan and David Beckham reveals hours worth of highlights. Man, I can watch Michael Jordan highlights all day!
4. Both Michael Jordan and David Beckham have their own shoe line. Nike Air Jordan is the world famous shoe by Nike that arguably put the company on the athletic wear map and started a whole new trend of endorsement deals in the NBA. David Beckham struck a deal with Adidas which presented the world with the Adidas Predator.
5. Both athletes have three children. Coincidence?
While there are similarities between both athletes, I for one believe that Michael Jordan is, and always will be in a league of his own. The Michael Jordan Rookie Card currently sells for $4500 USD! David Beckham’s Rookie card? Well, if you can even find it, it won’t cost you more than a couple of bucks.

David Beckham has won nothing with his national side. It says in the article he was voted best soccer player? Can you please tell me when this was.?? Im a soccer fan and i can tell you that Beckham has never won FIFA world player of the year award. This award determines who is the best soccer player...
If a list was compiled of the greatest soccer players ever beckham would not figure in the top100. This is a fact.
Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever, where is the comparison?? Beckham is famous for being famous. Jordan is famous for be the greatest at his chosen sport..
A better comparsion would be JORDAN v PELE.
Pele is rated as the greatest soccer player ever..

Too bad Beckham isn't even the best player and never has been so no one gives a rat's ass about the overrated, tabloid 'star'. Go home you little fraud.

Are you trying to compare people on how much there cards sell for on ebay? Thats a joke, what does it matter how much there cards go for, we dont even have rookie cards or whatever there called over here anyway (UK). I am a Manchester United fan, lived in Manchester all my life, and when at United Beckham was a star and thats where he was born, he became an idol for lots of kids around the area, and eventually the world, including me. I myself am one of the few basketball fans over here, and yes Jordon was simply amazing, but you cant compare him with the likes of Beckham who is from a completly different sport. I mean, Beckham isnt even one of the best players in the world. You'd have to look back to the players like Pele, Maradona, Platini, Zidane, or look around today we have a new no.7 at United in Cristiano Ronaldo, there's also other great players like Ronaldinho, Kaka and Sneijder just to name a few.
The likelyhood though is when an American compares any basketball, baseball (any american sport basically) with any other sports star such as football (soccer) players there always going to choose the american sports star because there too patriotic, stubbern and wont open there eyes or accept other sports which are not common with them.
Oh and its called Football, not Soccer.

Michael might have been a great basketball player but he sucked at 'baseball'. I could even out play him on that field !!
