I've been traveling a lot lately and as much as I love Wi-Fi it just isn't available in enough places to rely on it as your key source of connectivity. As a result, I've been using Verizon's Wireless Broadband solution and I really like it... when I'm able to get their highest speed EVDO Rev A connection using the Verizon PC5750 card. Connecting to their "National Broadband" service is just ok.
Lately, I've been in a bit of a fringe signal location. So I set out find check out if an external antenna will work. I scoured Google, a host of blogs and some wireless forums and decided to make the plunge. I purchased a Verizon Wireless PC Card Window Mount Antenna.
If you're expecting miracles from an external antenna then you will be disappointed. If your signal is truly awful then unfortunately this antenna will not help. However, if you are looking for some help boosting your signal about 1 bar or 10 dBm then you will be pleased. It also helps smooth out the signal strength and eliminate dropped connections (at least it did for me).
Overall I am pleased with the purchase and for only $30 I'm happy with the bump in performance that I get with the antenna connected.
