The Leafs writer over at hockey buzz, Howard Berger had a licensed store owner tell him the changes are going to be mild for the new Toronto Maple Leafs Reebok Edge jersey. Here's the skinny from the lengthy article: "Exact same shirt as last year, minus, TML shoulder patches, bottom stripes are gone, (sleeves stripes remain). Silver twill is gone. Number font is the same as last year, block style, basically Marlies lettering -- blue, white blue, and white blue white. Names remain one colour as per last year. Very, very plain."

To read the entire article about the new Toronto Maple Leafs sweater click here. I've attached a pic that has been floating around hockeysfuture. It appears that based on Howard's source the jersey is not the correct one since it has stripes at the bottom. I actually hope they keep the bottom 2 stripes as it might be too boring without them. Also I loved the TML shoulder logos and thought they were the best in the league. Leafs fans what do you think about the changes to your Leafs Jersey?

Frankly, I don't really care about the "new" jerseys vs the old ones that teams wore up until this past year. Well, okay, actually I do agree that I'd gladly stick to the old, "bulky" jerseys in all their flawed glory, except for one thing: The NHL, already having ticked me off monumentally with a lot of *other* changes over the last several years, hammered probably the last nail into the coffin of my NHL fandom in 2003-04, when it mandated that teams start wearing their road jerseys at home.
Yes, yes, I know: According to the NHL, ever since that year, teams' dark jerseys are now "officially" their "home" uniforms, while the white outfits are their "road" uniforms. Screw that. As far as I'm concerned, NHL teams wear white (or yellow) jerseys at home, and wear their dark colours when playing on the road, and ever since 03-04, NHL teams have been wearing their road jerseys at home and home jerseys on the road. Period.
The NHL is *NEVER* going to get me to call the Leafs dark blue sweaters their "home" jerseys, and I, who used to be a *HUGE* Leafs fan and NHL fan in general, have quit watching ever since they returned from the lockout.
I know this is a really minor nit to pick, what with the league having too many teams, having a badly imbalanced schedule (every team has a dozen or so opponents they don't play at *all* in a season? What kind of crap is that?), and with the NHL having tampered with the integrity of the game by introducing shoot-outs to cap off awarding a point for losing a game ... But you have to draw the line somewhere, and I'm drawing it with teams wearing their road jerseys at home.
Until NHL teams start wearing white (or yellow) at home again, and dark on the road, I frankly don't give a damn what's going in with the league. It's a shame that Gary Bettman and his woefully unwise policies (see above) have driven away such a loyal and rabid Canadian fan as myself, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but I'm making my stand and I won't budge until some semblance of sanity returns.
Oh, and one last thing. Yes, I'm aware that NHL teams wore their dark colours at home prior to 1970-71 ... but that was for 15 seasons. When the NHL first mandated that teams had to have different home and away uniforms, back in 1951-52, guess what? It was white at home, dark on the road for four years. Then they tried dark at home for 15 seasons, then *back* to white at home for 33 years. So as far as I'm concerned, white (or yellow) at home, was and always will be, the correct home jersey.
Peace.

I like it. The TML thing was silly. It was just another logo for them to sell. So I'm happy THAT's gone. I think having numbers on the sleeves will really do a lot to help the plain-ness of the jersey. I also like the triple sleeve stripe.
I LOVE that they brought back the laced up neck!
By the way Andy, try doing a little less whining next time. The reason they switched is because all of the teams 3rd jerseys, with the exception of Toronto, were dark. Obviously they want to wear their 3rd jersey while at home, so they swapped light and dark to ensure there is never an issue with doing so.

Andy,
That switch is one of the few changes that has not bothered me during the Gary Buttman era. I do fear that they will flip flop on it every couple of years to drive jersey sales.
Are you really a former fan? If so I wouldn't think you would checking up on the Leafs if that was the case. Its ok we won't tell anyone, its hard to go cold turkey. Its still a great game despite the Southernization of Hockey by the 5th Avenue NHL suits.
