Toyota is about to really push the eco envelope when it unveils the new Prius which is rumored to offer solar powered air conditioning on some of the loaded models. The solar panels will be on the roof of the new Prius and will provide 2 to 5 kilowatts of electricity according to the Nikkei newspaper of Japan. Toyota has a deal in place to purchase the panels from Kyocera. Solar panels on a car will be a first and will be the tip of the iceberg as this could be a huge marketing and technology win for the green giant.
I was looking at 48V DC for the solar panels, but it seems HV is very popular.I think anything greater then 100V is very dangerous. But the more popular systems all run between greater then 150 to 600V.
